Day #5 – Are you writing a Literary Classic for NanoWrimo?

leave a comment »

The literary one Month!

Are you writing a literary classic or are you like me and failing to hit the literary barely able to read list.  That’s where I think my story is headed…but let’s hope not.  That’s the stressor to avoid!!

So far, I’m not sure how my story is going to come together.  I was going for humor and I hate to admit it… it’s just not that funny!  I mean the characters themselves are funny or have funny things going on but HOW do you translate that to a FUNNY situation.  I was hoping it would be conveyed through the story…but hey who has to convey that? ooh. I don’t know…ME! lol.

In my head I can see things happening but putting it down on paper makes it a little bit droll.  I’m wondering if I’m not writing a screenplay or movie versus a good book.   I can see why preparation might have been in order here.

I want to pitch it and start from scratch! But…I won’t b/c I read that you should.  PROCRASTINATION ALERT! Starting something over and over again is how you never get anything done.  This is why I decided to participate in

Hey guys…I’m on Twittter!

OK…Here’s the update.

Day 1 = FAIL 0 words

Day 2 = Succes = 4,257

Day 3 = Success = 2,269

Day 4 = FAIL = 976!

Day 5 = prediction…success!!  already have …1069 for today! SUCCESS = 2376

MOTIVATION TIP: There are 146,811 authors that are embarked on this journey.  Lots of them will NOT make a classic but all of them that complete their task WILL be proud of themselves…including YOU!

PROCRASTINATION TIP: Don’t let the need for perfection get in the way of DOing something and completing nothing.   Even if you think it’s not the BEST YOU!  It’s better to have something to revise than nothing at all.  Who cares if you have 30 unrevised completed books…you have them!

Day #4 – No Plot No Problem? Making the Commitment to your plot during NanoWriMo

Day #4 of National Novel Writing Month

The confession: I have never done anything for 30 days straight (other than school, even then you skip days).  So, this will indeed be an interesting experience and a test of my sheer will power and diligence.  I tried photography blipping for 30 days….there was always something that came up.  So of course the question is.  Will my plot hold out even if I can?

Here’s the other challenge. What about if you don’t like where your story or plot is going.  Well according to the Procrastination station at, you are not suppose to scrap it, you are not even really suppose to care.  Write whatever comes to mind get it down on paper and the rest…you save that for December.  In the meantime…get all 50, 000 words down on paper so it can be counted for and you can say “I won!” at the end of the month with a starting novel all your own and the satisfaction that you’ve made an accomplishment.  Here here!

Yesterday, I hated where I took my story but I plowed through anyway.  I guess every day will be a journey one that you may or may not like.  You may even look back at that day and say today was a waste of time…but it won’t be because it was another day that helped you reach your goal and tomorrow you can’t just write that fugly part into oblivion with a simple twist or turn to your story.  I know that’s what I will be doing.

Word count UPDATE: Coming sometime between now and midnight.  If yesterday was any indication…it will be midnight.  But, I’m hoping…NOT!

Day 1 = FAIL 0 words

Day 2 = Succes = 4,257

Day 3 = Success = 2,269

Day 4 = FAIL = 976!

Fail? Maybe. But, I am closer to my goal than I was yesterday.  Again, packing too much into a day.  I didn’t get done what I wanted but tomorrow is another day for …SUCCESS.

Motivation: You can DO This.  Just Hunker down.  DO NOT Edit!

Procrastination: Stay Away!  But, if you find your mind wandering. Try a little literary humor to take your mind off of things and then get back to it!  I just ran across and I love her art and her humor.

Day #3 of National Novel Writing Month – My Plot for NanoWriMo

with 2 comments

Need Sleep Pleez

Ok. quick  for all you math whizzes out there…what’s 6,518 – 4,257.  That’s my word count for the day!  So…

Day 1 = FAIL

Day 2 = Success! 4,257

Day 3 = Success! 2,269  – I didn’t think I’d made it! lol!

The challenge today?  I waited too long to write,  got up too early (4AM), had too much other stuff to do and almost didn’t get my writing in because while I was typing I fell asleep.  I asked if anyone had the secret to could add more hours to the day.   I didn’t ask if they had any way to stay up if I got those extra hours.  Hmmm…be careful what you wish for.

Ok.  I promised thanks to Thomas that I’d fill you guys in on the plot:  Some of you may think its corny but I decided to go with humor and romance.  Why because it was light hearted and i hadn’t thought as much as I had thought about other topics.  It is also a malleable subject and I’m all about fun and creativity.  So…this will be my first.

My plot:  Jenna is young 30 something female living in New York who just go out of a bad 3 year relationship with “Guy.”   She is heartbroken and depressed.   This is not just about Jenna.   The plot is about a group of cooky friends who decide to take the matter of fate into their own hands.  They are friends who are fed up with the status quo and the lack of date worthy men who show up at their doorstep.  These disgruntled beauties and their pal scour the streets of New York in order to find them a man.  The secret to success? Find a man you can “rehab”  and help them get back on their feet.  Yes…they go get homeless guys fix them up and date them.  This is the best thing sliced bread.  The rehabees can’t help but be grateful and cater to their every need…right?  Of course, that’s what they think.

So what do you think? Sound fun enough?

Here’s to Motivation and kicking procrastination in its butt …although today…I’ve had my share of both.  No one procrastinates better than me. I can make 8 hours disappear like it was nothing and have absolutely nothing to show for it.  I’m a pro.  If you need any advice on HOW to procrastinate I can give it to you.  In the meantime I’m going to stay highly motivated and I hope you do too.

Now is there anyone out there willing to share their plot as well I’d love to hear.

It’s past midnight…oh no not again!

You can buddy me at:  here!

Thanks again Thomas for the reminder.

Day 1 = Fail!!! I did not write ONE word!  Not one iota.  Why you ask?  Because I couldn’t decide on a topic.  I started THIS blog. I perused forums.  I looked for a mentor and…nothing.  I didn’t find a mentor.  I DID finally, in the 11th hour find some help on choosing a topic.  I’ll have to thanks to catnmus.  Catnmus told me which idea I had sounded best and I went with it.  That’s what I needed…sound direction!

Shout outs to: susabelle, R. Dan Henry, Nadiab, and BethTH.  All these guys had some good advice and helped me on my way. Thanks guys!

My story: I’m contemplating putting excerpts or daily updates from my book.  If anyone’s interested in reading an on-going novel…let me know and I’ll definitely make it happen.

So I’ll keep a running journal of my National Novel Writing Month Daily Total Words!  (does that make sense?)

Day 1: FAIL!! = 0 Word Count

Day 2: SUCCESS!! = 4275 Word Count +

UPDATE: Thanks to Write or Die for the Word Count Widget!!! (check side bar)

It’s National Novel Writing Month – Taking On the Challenge!

It’s National Novel Writing Month!!!

I’ve known about NaNoWriMo for a few years now.

I guess you might’ve already guessed that I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now.

What is NaNoWriMo you ask?

It’s a group that’s been around since 1999.  It’s a unique way to motivate and connect would-be writers through the web as a support base!  It’s a one-stop shop for motivation!

As you may have already guessed again I’m all about motivation!!!!  Lucky for me…they even have a Procrastination Station…ya’ know…just in case you get sidetracked.

I’ve simultaneously started 2 projects (that’s a formula for success right? Well….in this case, maybe yes.  What if you could kill two birds with one stone?  You know write a novel and a blog at the same time?  How ingenious is that?  It wasn’t my idea.  I was wordpress browsing and someone claimed that they were going to do such a thing and I thought to myself why not? It would certainly be another motivator to help keep me honest right? Well…let’s hope so.  I don’t know though…clicking two buttons just might be the catalyst to a no go.  We shall see.
